This piece was done by toning an even dark gray background, then sculpting out the image using a white eraser. Finally, charcoal was added to darken the darkest areas.

I love this method of charcoaling. A eraser does the trick. If you told this picture out side it comes out so much better. A flash cant compete.
Artist Reply: Thank you Charles. I appreciate the suggestion. Ultimately I would like to scan it, but I haven't had the time to scan it in parts and put it together in Photoshop.
