drawing in pencil of some guy in a trenchcoat

Cant decide if this is a drawing, a rendering, a sketch, a graphite or something else. Definitions seem to be so important to some people. I just took out a pencil and started scribbling away like mad. Yes, I was looking at a photo at first, then just let fly the graphite. I guess the result is called a "drawing".

Great combination of art and advertising! I am also a graphic artist for a major newspaper here in California and can easily enjoy work like yours.

Artist Reply: thats a terrific compliment, thank you. Let me know if you ever need some spot illustrations for editorial!

Great drawing. Wonderful again :-)

Artist Reply: its actually a very small drawing, fits on an 8.5x11" piece of white bond paper.

A True sign of an artist translating what you see into a beautiful 2D representation of a 3D person or object imparting depth form and value to create the illussion of life!

Wish I could "scribble" like this! Fantastic work...only it really wasn't "work" to you, was it?

Artist Reply: well actually, I was an Art Director for a company in California at the time, and this might have been an assignment for one of our clients.

... a drawing it 'tis... and a fine one at that! ("scribbling" - yeah, right.)

Artist Reply: gosh , I am glad to hear that. It is perplexing when some artists say that I cant draw. Actually kinda funny to hear that since I have thousands of drawings, some are even "published" in trade journals, newspapers, books and magazines. Drawing is good. Its the fundamental behind all good paintings. My own thoughts of course.
