INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC

During the era of Star Wars, it was my great honor to tour the ILM facility and watch some of my friends work on movies like Star Trek. I was invited to very special party at "The Ranch" ...where I met Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. (among others) This was a big moment in my life as an artist.

I've just come back from the Star Wars expo in Paris and stood infront of a matte painting of the Millenium Falcon in a hangar on the planet Hoth (a Mike Pangrazio I think) that I used to freeze frame on my video to look at when I was a kid. If you ever wanted to see an athiest have an epiphany it was right then.

Artist Reply: Mike has an incredible skill in illusion. His many matt paintings will become legendary. I only hope that they kept all of his work safe, as well as that of Frank Ordaz, a very dear friend and compatriot. They will be extremely valuable someday.

I can believe that. Wow, such a great opportunity

Artist Reply: yes, I was very lucky to have this experience and to hang out with such great talents. I came close to working there too, but fate played a different hand during that time.

That's amazing what an experience that must have been John. But you're an amazing artist yourself and this doesn't surprise me at all my friend.

That's cool-would love to have the chance to tour and meet these people. I have always been a huge fan of the concept artists that come up with this stuff. I saw the Star Wars myth and magic exhibit in washington D.C. a while back and was just blown away by the work and the detail. tell them thanks.

Artist Reply: sounds like a great exhibit. I have many more photos from this era of my life...but was cautious about posting these. It was an extraordinary experience to meet these two giant film magicians. It feels like a dream now.
