Drew this in 1984. I was sitting on the back porch of my parents house in NY, holding a cup of tea in my hand. Kind of as close to a "self portrait" as i have gotten so far... had just graduated from college and knew I would be returning soon to Japan... I call this the empty cup principle cause it reminds me of the Taoist & Zen idea that we must empty ourselves of our preconceptions, knowledge and thoughts before we can learn something new... Something also very important with meditation...

This is GREAT Christopher! I love it! Not only is your style in depth and articulate but so is youf thought. Thank you for sharing some words of wisdom from another point of few. It helps. It is interesting to learn the other views in the world on religion and ethics or anything. This is awonderful illustration and reminder of a way to live. My saying is..."IT matters not whether the cup is Half Empty or Half Full..What matters is that there is a Cup." I kind of made that up for my Sister Mary Lou Cupp, when she got married and acquired her last name. I hope you don't mind me sharing that with you. I love your bio phto.
