Detached

DETACHED This mixed media drawing is part of the “Un-Masked” collection. It is about gaining answers by adopting a detached, broader perspective and owes its existence to my personal quest for the eternal “home”. From early childhood on I felt a strong yearning “to go home”. But upon close examination of my reality, I never found anything that even remotely resembled the home I so desired. This scared the heck out of me. Consequently, I used to shove the issue under the proverbial rug, thereby unwittingly creating “homeless”ghosts in my mind-closet. One day I decided to sit with the issue until I would find the answer. I made a plaster mask of my face from which I then created “Detached” with a constant prayer for the definition of “home” on my mind. Detached from my illusory Self, I expected to gain a broader perspective. The proverb “home is where the heart is” entered my mindstream. And for the first time, in a flash, I truly understood its meaning: it is when I care and pray for others more than for myself, that “home” reveals itself to me. May “Detached” serve as a milestone into the All. This Print are a limited edition of only 108, NO OPEN EDITION. 108 is the number of spiritual completion. Mantras and prayers are traditionally counted with Malas or Rosaries, consisting of 108 beads each. Since ancient liberating secrets are concealed within Pono's artwork, she wishes her prints to circulate around the globe like Rosaries of Freedom Chant mantras. This artwork is museum grade giclee on canvas, numbered and hand signed by the artist, and included is the artist's story.
