half empty, half full

this is all prismacolor pencils on textured grey paper (i know the paper doesn't look grey in the scan, i messed with the colors slightly to make the purple show up more)i did this drawing for my portfolio for art college. the one i was considering, MCAD, requires 4 observational drawings, and i pretty much had none so far. so i set up this pretty simple still life, pretty different from my other stuff. the thing the glass is sitting on is a tin lid for prismacolor pencils because i wanted a reflective surface. i decided to make the tin lid bluish and the background a purple gradient. and for some crazy reason i decided to pick an angle to draw the glass with a ridiculous amount of reflections in the water and on the outside of the glass from random things on my desk. but i think it'll look nice in my portfolio, add some variety. this was all drawn from life. honestly before this drawing i thought i had to rely on photo references to get an accurate rendering, but i'm really pleased with how realistic the glass looks. i'm looking forward to doing the rest of my observational drawings. maybe i'll try out my velour paper next. thank you for looking all feedback welcome.
