A painting inspired by a lovely hill here in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The hill has a vitrified fort on the summit...a prehistoric fort whose stones have somehow become fused together by great heat. It's a mystery how this happened, or when. The hill is called "Tap o' the Noth" and isn't very high, but it commands a very good view and is a benign feeling place. When I was there last I noticed a red deer calf lying up in the bracken, waiting for it's mother to return. I passed by, making as little disturbance as possible.
