This is a 29"x41" water color of Soouth Street in New York shortly after the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. The name of the horse drawn vehicles waiting to board the docked ferry are completely forgotten except for their name which was the Omnibus. They were essentially high capacity stage coaches which were able to go any where in an urban environment comparitively quickly in a very complex network of streets that were found in an urban environment. The name Omnibus has a broad general meaning as an adjective or a noun as a quality of or a device possesing the quality of extrraodinary range extraodinary range, mobility and versatility.
