Artist Reply: Thanks Steve, for your comment. No, the background is not ink. It is a combination of charcoal and graphite. 2B each, and a lot of blending. I also used a kneaded erasor and an electric erasor to help pull out some of the lights, then more blending.
Breathaking. What an extraordinary talent you have. The textures in this are amazing and the detail is astounding. I can't think of enough fabulous words to describe it. Obviously I LOVE IT!
