Grass Dance

This is a Native American Grass dancer. There are several ideas for what the Grass dance is for, but one says that the early Indian scouts would go ahead of the tribe to seek a suitable site for a new camo or meeting place. As the grass was often very high, they would dance a dance to stomp down the grass and make it ready. The grass dance movements also reflect warrior movements such as stalking prey and and also they take on the movements of that prey. The regalia (clothing) worn consists of strands of yarn, ribbon or cloth in extremely bright colors and represents the long grass. The dancers swirl in a whirlwind of color to the heartbeat of Mother Earth, the drum. This is a digital photograph which I blurred the distracting background to catch the feeling of that motion. Hope I succeeded! By the way...good to be back again!

i am a novice grass dancer and i love this picture. you did a great job in simulating what it looks like when your grass dancing. my first thought when i looked at it was "that's what it actuelly looks like when i dance." so good job.
