Another oldie but one that is also very dear to my heart so I wanted to share it with you.
This one was a last minute Christmas commission from a girl I worked with. Christmas was only about a week away when I accepted it also knowing I would have one full day in my studio to complete it and get it to her. In my race for time I started to really struggle with Emily's face because of the angle and a lot of it being covered by her hair. I couldn't get her glasses right and now I'd erased so much that I was starting to damage the paper. I didn't have time for this!!
At that point I stopped what I was doing and as we all tend to do when we run out of human options I turned to God for help. I went in my bedroom, "fessed up" as some of my Christian friends call it which just makes for a great time of prayer cuz you don't have anything nagging at you.. and spent some time with the Lord. At the end I humbly asked for some assistance on my portrait. (Ahem... reminding Him who gave me the gift and all...LOL)
When I went back to work on this piece it was if God himself was giving me a drawing lesson. He said, "When I created Emily she did not have glasses on. Finish her face without the glasses and see how beautiful I made her." As I began working I was absolutely overcome with feelings of love. Love for Emily and it was clear to me how much He loved her. I never erased once and after finishing her face I added the glasses, and thanked the Lord for His perfect help.
It was one of the most amazing experiences I'd ever had. Sometimes when I'm feeling a little disconnected I go back and look at this one to remind me of a better time.

this is an excellent piece, drawing two subjects of completly different statures within a tight frame is a tough thing to pull off and you did it nicely. my favorite is the attention to detail with the flannel shirt.Peter Skov 18 Jun 2006

To be truthfully honest, before every commission piece I've ever done I say a little prayer and usually the piece goes all that more smootly. You've done a superb job and it really shows!Tami Dykes 09 Jun 2006
What a move of God!!!! This was very touching to read and truly pulled at my heart. It's amazing what God does through us if we'd just give him the glory and fess up to needing him in everything we do. Yes, indeed God gave you the beautiful gift of drawing, you are very blessed! I'm putting you on my ArtWatch because I expect to see God moving through you with all your drawings and I can't wait to see it. Your new friend TamiJean M. Laffitau 19 Apr 2006
