art BLOCK ist

it's one of those things... times when things don't flow. you know it's there, but where? so you sit and stare at blank white or old art..... you know the story! so here is a 3am sketch during one of those moments... it's been digitally altered in photoshop. painted with watercolor on index paper. in the background is a fingerprint above the shoulder. it's a kept accident not painted over. sort of a accidental signature...

Magical image! Unblocking by painting yourself painting your self painting yourself being blocked... I tell my writing students that a block is when we want to be somewhere other than where we are. I also love the fingerprint you included. In the creative flow there are no mistakes.

beautiful work!

hehehe... oh i hate when this sort of block happens! but you know something? the lovliest thing abotu this is that the creativitiy seems to be flourishing all around the room, over flowing in every direction, except for this poor woman who remains a thorn amidst this creativity. shes blocked off. while life blooms, it stays clear of 'her'. Perhaps her reddish stance indicated her dry frustration? And perhaps she can see her emptiness reflected in her mirror-canvas on the table? Youve captured this dilema so so so well barbara... well done indeed!

Artist Reply: magda - you have read the very soul of this work with your words... i love the way you see and think! and yes, all you say is truth we are our own worst thorns! it's also a place where lately i have been hanging right on the balance.... perhaps with comments like yours i will find myself back in the flow! thank you magda!

good work on this very nicely done

Dawn Bigford 26 Jun 2005

Great job and love all the detail...

Artist Reply: thank you dawn for the visit to my latest artwork. the original drawing is the one you see on the table staring back at the artist. i took liberties with photoshop to add artword from the past to surround the artist at her BLOCK.... it was fun and broke up the "fear" of not being in the flow! hope all is well with you -- been watching your portfolio as well - always pristine in color and style you are!
