The Yard

Tenth painting in my series of New Zealand Oils. On expedition out of Dunedin on the Otago Peninsula I came across two rather fascinating subjects featuring sheep yarding motifs. They were at the base of Mount Charles where sheep, penguins and sea-lions are all cosy neighbours. This was wet muddy farming land with grassy slopes and cliffs falling steeply into the Pacific Ocean only a few hundred yards behind me. The sillouette of this structure against the setting sun immediately caught my eye. It appeared sinister and yet rather aesthetically teasing as well. I just had to paint it! 2005 10" x 6.75" Oil on Canvas Panel
