Bruce Combs 14 Jul 2009

What an absolute joy. So many pretty flowers and the perfect little stream all contrasted with the beautiful age allso of the shed. So much to look at. So well composed, moving my eyes back and froth, up and down. Perhaps my favorite are the tool leaning against the wall. I am still amazed, Anneke, at what varieties (can that word be plural?) of people, buildings, and of course nature, especially flowers -- but I know you are superb at trees, too, although as yet I've only seen the first few pages at the beginning where several magnificantly aged trees proudly, beautifully, and faithfully stand. I hope you nod as I do as I pass by such a well-deserving regally aged example for the rest of nature. And sometimes that you stop to hug, thanking God for it, and the tree bearing God's grace so wonderfully for all to see. And so to quote one of the 3 or 4 most accomplished English poets: "They also serve who only stand and wait!" And here and in other superb paintings Anneke amply demonstrates that while "only God can make a tree," as the more popular even if critically less admired poet, Joyce Kilmore wrote, yet Anneke with her finely "craftwomanship" can so well imitate and emulate the trees and all of nature that God has nurtured for beauty, shade, homes for so many creatures, and to lead our vital way in fighting polution and global warming; I say Anneke can and does replicate so perfectly as recognizable portraits those trees, as marvelously as she does human (and fairy!) portraits. Thank you so much, God, for giving us such a greatly talented and alread accomplished artist to record Your otherwise unbelievable, wondrous world! Peace, etc., Bruce

Artist Reply: When I ever win the lotteries I want to live here! :) Dear Bruce, I'm not only a tree hugger, I'm addicted to trees! I could never live without them. In front of my house there is an old beech tree, at least 300 years old, much higher than my flat, the branches almost knocking on my window. I'm looking in the crown of it, seeing all life that's going on there. I will never get bored of the view, in spring, autumn, whatever the season, it's always new. I'm always wondering what this tree has heard and seen over the years, I think it could write a whole history book. :) So painting trees is just a logical effect of my daily view that is indeed brought to me by our great Creator. You brighten my day with your wonderful comment, for which I thank you truly very much!

Susan Vessels 16 Jun 2009

This is beautiful, Anneke, the colours are so right, especially the stones, and the way you have used the change in their shade and definition to depict the water: I have no way of knowing whether this place exists in truth, but it certainly 'lives' here. :) Gwen.

I like the subject..but the contrast of the flowers that are hanging on the house are not good..they are farther away hense less detail..practice from still lifes to understand the use of this device in painting..then go outside..it is much much harder..because of the lightning conditions change every minute :)
