No Big Deal

This was my first commission oil painting by a rich lady in 1974, painted from an old photograph. The deal didn't went through, I made a big mistake I didn't arranged the price before the work, I asked for US$135 she expected less than US$20. The deal didn't work out, but I was very poor I need the money for my studies...finally I decided to keep my work & she keep her money.....I love this piece very much, it's still with me till now.

Oh Francis, I do love this work too. I cannot imagine someone treating you so awfully as to want to give you only $20. You are a master and that you once were a starving artist is so romantic (I bet you didn't think so at the time!). All the best to you now.

Well, the smaller child's face is a bit squished and almost old-looking, but otherwise, looks pretty good for earlier work.

very good expressions compliment the atmosphere darkened by the sadness of children.Diagonal composition creates the feeling of solitude but still there's hope somewhere an the children are determined to fight to exist in a world of little hopes for their kind. The little boy is already assuming the position of the head of family now.

Way to go Francis and look at you now - I like how you titled it to go with the story. The older girls face is wonderful it alone is awesome, not to mention the rest of the painting!

You were very smart to keep it, Francis. It's amazing work. Very different from the work you've been putting up but just as powerful and fascinating.
