Hawaiian green sea turtles are frequently observed resting on beaches throughout the islands. Although they spend much of their lives in the ocean, these remarkable marine reptiles also come ashore to bask and rest. What drew me to this photograph was the sense of stillness. Without the distraction of color, the details of the turtle's face and the natural patterns of its shell become the focus, creating a peaceful connection with one of Hawai?i's most recognizable marine animals.
