American WWII soldiers were often citizen-soldiers with little military experience but then adapted to the demands of a world conflict. Their contribution to the Allied victory also helped shape postwar American society by influencing military policy, civil rights, & a historical “memory”. Their stories are preserved through films, biographies, surveys & letters.
