I've noticed a tendency in a certain age group to avert the eyes when we pass each other in a store or walking down the street. How do I know they do this? Because I do NOT avert mine. This is a 6 by 4 inches gel pen drawing on medium bond paper and another straight ahead example of Original Jones Art here in the live tattoo parlor of the world, Austin, Texas.

Splendid! I, too, like to look people in the eye but as you indicated with your work, they usually avert looking directly at my eyes. Glancing blows sometimes but no direct eye to eye contact.

Artist Reply: That old expression about those being blindest who do not care to see is, to my mind, a universal truism, Ginger. It goes hand in hand with 'willful ignorance.' You only learn by keeping your eyes and mind wide open. I have to think that the blind have moved to the second most discerning input device: the ears. I usually use them both in tandem, letting one verify the other's data. I've been virtually run over by folks so busy avoiding me I was no longer in their line of vision. Strange times, I think. ;)
