This piece was painted in 2006, using a photo I shot of Downtown Chicago in 1996. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and I was standing under the Loop tracks on Lake St. I wanted to capture the essence of Chicago and found the structure of the elevated tracks mesmerizing. I also thought the way sunlight spills through and hits the objects below very abstract and interesting. The original painting was submitted into a national contest hosted by the company 123456 which manufactures the paints and brushes I use. I won second place in the acrylic painting category. There were 4 parts to the award; A cash prize, a full set of paints and supplies, a feature in “Art In America” monthly art publication and lastly the company acquires the piece for there corporate gallery in New Jersey. Since the painting was a success, I contacted the Wendy’s corporate office in Naperville to see if they would be interested in purchasing a print of the piece. Subsequently they commissioned me to paint an image of a newly renovated Wendy’s restaurant in Oak Park. Which now hangs in the lobby of the corporate office.
