Among the more evocative objects of the 20th Century were the saber-edged fins and projectile tail lamps of 1959 Cadillacs. What they evoked is open to interpretation, but contrarian outlooks believed that American car styling reached an outlandish zenith with the 1959 Cadillac. There was a sense that things had to be dialed back (even within GM) and beginning in 1960 ...they were.
