Inspired by our garden this year. We actually were able to grow a lot of sunflowers, enough to make several bouquets. I placed the flowers on a platform next to my easel and used the direct painting approach. After 5 or 6 hours the painting began to take shape. After three days work, I was satisfied I had captured their essence but by then the powers were starting to droop. I see the end result as a kind of metaphor on aging. My wife and I are "Vecchi girasoli" for that matter, as are many of our friends. 24 x 20 x 1 oil on canvas.
