Degrasse

After being diagnosed with a mental illness, I felt a deep need to express myself and my pain through painting and writing. Eventually I came to a place of wanting to paint for its own sake and I chose abstracts as a vehicle to allow me to explore with color, light, and composition, to play with paint, squeezing and mixing luscious colors onto my palette and canvas. The title comes from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows and means "entranced and unsettled by the vastness of the universe, experienced in a jolt of recognition that the night sky is not just a wallpaper but a deeply foreign ocean whose currents are steadily carrying off all other castaways...."
