This is a portrait of Tony Hawk. He is the master of Skating. I used to follow him back when I used to skate and he's still going strong. I needed to get a portrait done; I havent done one in a long time. Done on Bristol board 11x14 with HB lead. Let me know what you think!

I thought that I commented on this...I was sure of it...My name isn't here...I don't know why not! I remember this sketch vividly...it is unforgettable the way you described this guy and the use of lighting and intensity in the facial features...shows you have a deep intuitive sense of soul...and displays your fine skill in renedering realistically. Very Impressive work, Jay! Honest. I am always pleased to hear from you whenever you leave a ommnet on my work. I like to here about how your life and art career is going...I hope you and your lady are happy blessed in all you do. Thanks for looking in on my latest photo...I did want that picture of my bird to appear stellular as you first thought...for the sky belongs to the birds, truly, does it not...long before planes or any space ships ...the wings of birds graced the heights. The song that that phto refers to is a Christian song about Gods love. It plays in my mind allot and that particular phrase is so beautiful...Birds are symbols of freedom for me and for many I am sure...it is like when we love we set our hearts free to soar to the harbors of heavens...it is our decision to love or not... thus..."Love is always waiting in the Wing" maybe that is what it means...I really appreciate your comments. I pray for the wind of Goodness and Peace to take your soul flying everyday...Take care, Dear One. Sincerely CB

Great light and shadow work, especially around the eyes!

Daniel Collins 02 Nov 2005

Excellent work. Good expression on his face, great form, and shading is good. His hair is especially well done. I'd suggest maybe using some darker pencils to do your blacks so the face will stand out even more.

Laura Smith 11 Jul 2005

well done! thanks for checking my pic out! i just got it downloaded!

Richard Sitterly 02 Dec 2004

very well done. i like the left side of the face in partic. u should integrate that type of high contrast throughout. also the neck / right below the jaw bone, really seems to flatten the piece... and the black backround cuts right in and intrudes onto the subject. i would darken (or lighten) something to help define the neck and jaw. but whatev... excellent piece.
