Artist comment: "Painting boats is a passion of mine. I love the counterpoint of the smooth curved hull with the crisp straight lines of the boat. I particularly like to paint rust. Here the tones of the autumn trees are picked up in the rust accents on the 'Annette'. On Canson Mi-Teintes paper, I sketched the scene, then with soft pastel I began with the sky, water, and background hills (the Astoria/Megler bridge is an important element here). Painting the boat was a true delight! I love the way the sun gleamed on her side.”
