Artist Reply: I use and prefer Ampersand's black boards. They come in all sorts of sizes from 5x7 to 18x36. and sometimes larger. You can find them under Claybord Black in most art catalogs. Best price I've seen is Dick Blick. For scratching, I use a #11 X-acto knife and there are some great Ampersand Scratchboard tools that you can buy, also. I use the Line Tool, the fiberglass brush, and sometmes the oil-free steel wool. (It has to be oil free because the oil in regular steel wool will stain the white clay underneath the black ink.
