Harbingers of spring, trout lilies have a very short season and these were almost finished blooming. They are also known as dogtooth violets and adder's tongue, although they are not violets.

I used to see these while mushroom hunting. It was a curiosity that for the most part there were only one or two blooms. My thinking was that if no one disturbed the bulbs they should have grown in number to a point they would be as plentiful as May Apples. Great shot!
