It's easy to see what bad diet and little sleep will do to one. He looks emaciated to me. I used mostly felt-tip with a bit of color pencil. Image area is 8.75 by 10.5 inches. Original Jones Art looking for visual clues in northwest Austin, Texas..

Excellent likeness, Charles, to Vincent...but, where is his other ear!! lol

Artist Reply: Next to maybe Rembrandt, I know of no other artist who did as many self-portraits. Rembrandt did them over time; Vincent in his last few years. And if you look at them, you see he was not so much interested in his physical state as much as his emotional. :)

Charles, This is a great work. Vincent VAn Gogh has always been a fascinating artist to read about and of course to see his works. This is a fabulous, colorful and cool portrait. Bravo for YOU.

Excellent art portrait of one of my favorite artists: the legendary Vincent Van Gogh. He would be very proud of your artistic homage to him.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Vernonette. I'm not sure why I'm on a Vincent kick. It started when I found a photo of him at 13, I think, and thought it might be interesting to do a series of portraits---and portraits are not my forte. By studying these photos I've been adding to my knowledge of Vincent. The transformation from youth to artist is both dramatic and tragic. He only painted for 10 years and it was that decade that he gave so much to his painting that he appeared to have aged four. He died at age 37.
