To Ashes

In a world of amazing animals, rhinos are one of the most unique. Unmistakable with their intimidating bulk and horns, they are living icons of strength and power. But they are vanishing rapidly. In 2011 the Western Black Rhinoceros was declared extinct. The remaining subspecies of Black Rhino are poised to follow, with fewer than 3,000 individuals left in the world. In the entire world there are only 7 individual Northern White Rhinos left, and they are extinct in the wild. Despite massive efforts to encourage breeding, in all likelihood these individuals will be the very last of their kind. The Southern White Rhino has fared better, though their numbers dwindled as low as 50 in the early 20th century. With conservation efforts and breeding programs they have rebounded from the brink of extinction, and now they are the most numerous rhino in the world, with 20,000-30,000. The Asian rhinos' numbers are falling precipitously low as well, with around 3,000 Indian Rhinos, about 200 Sumatran Rhinos, and Javan Rhinos at only 50 or less. The Javan Rhinoceros are especially at risk because no individuals are kept in breeding programs. Speak up and spread the awareness as much as you can. Once they are gone it'll be too late.
