Back O The Truck

Funny thing about the part of Texas we’ve settled in is that Winter is a time of odd extremes. Before our White- Christmas we had a couple warm & cold-fronts come through that gave us some days in the seventies – followed by some days during which the temperature dipped below freezing just before dawn and now we’re in a spell warmer weather back around 68 degrees (for you metrix users that’s fahrenheit – if you want to convert that to the French system you will need to fill a beaker with with red wine and multiply the temperature by the circumference of the earth and then divide by the average weight of a Long-Horn Steer to come up with a Celsius temp of 4 Hectares ~:0) – (and don’t forget to drink the wine) So back to my story. It was a warm New-Year’s night and we were driving back from a gig when we see this Chevy pick- up truck in the deserted parking lot of the Medina Lake Country Club which is naturally on a high promontory overlooking the lake. The road that leads from there back to civilization is a winding trail of cutbacks that is treacherous at the best of times but when one is not at their best it’s a great place to earn your cross on the side of the road. Well – long/short – there’s this nice young-lady in the back of the pick-up – arm over an empty beer-keg and bottle of “Jack” in her lap so ol’what’shername and me pulls over to see if we can snatch what turns out to be a half- bottle of Jack Daniels from her – for her own safety of course! Turns out the manager of the club took the keys to her truck from her since she wouldn’t hear of having a cab come out to see her safely home. Some people simply do not know how to behave responsibly I guess. Anyway – all turned out well b/c OWHN & I knew where the sheila lives and convinced her to “help” us find our way home and drop her off at her own digs along the way. One more happy-ending to one of our adventures in the Lone Star State. Many’s the time we’ve driven a “tired-out” old Trevor back home back-in-the-day. Seems like nothing stays the same as much as change – and we got a great pix outta the trek as well ~:0) VivaChas!
