SS Ryndam 1964

This is the ORIGINAL SS Ryndam, a passenger ship, NOT a cruize ship. The last passenger ship to be built, it rivaled the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary at the time. A one way ticket from Montriel to Rotterdam cost $225, all meals included! beer was 15 cents and a mixed drink a quarter! the trip took ten days!

I circumnavigated the World on a 3 month voyage with the SS Ryndam in 1966. Stopped in 14 countries. We crossed the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Sues Canal, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and the Pacific. The SS Ryndam at that time was used for the University of the Seven Seas. There were 400 students on board taking classes and import practicum. She was a proud ship and cared for us well.

I took the SS Ryndam from Montreal to Le Harvre in early-summer 1964. Seventeen years old and could have all of the 15 cent Molson and Peter Stuyvesant cigarettes I wanted. Tea on-deck twice a day; buffet in the Palmcourt each night. Met a wonderful Canadian woman onboard. Hitched through Europe solo for the summer. Some of the best days I've lived.

Artist Reply: what a small world! Same Ship, same year~! Yes. those were great days!

I was a kid (6 years old) when my family and I immigrated to Canada on this ship. I recall it docked in Halifax NS in February 1964...Cold and wet that day....Memories K.L.A.N.

Artist Reply: It was a wonderful ship carrying passengers with dreams! I have TWO of these postcards, if you would like one let me know.

Great photo.... love hearing about all the details! $ 225.00 is a pittance now, but pricier then.
