I was born in Toronto in 1927 and have lived in Montreal and Jerusalem and now live in Vancouver Canada. It was not until I retired in 2001 that I took up painting. My work reflects my interests: religious themes, the outdoors, and abstracts. Often, despite the plan I may have had when I start a canvas, it seems an outside force takes over, and the brush appears to have a will of its own. Friends liked my work, and bought my paintings. Soon, as a result of word-to-mouth, people came to see my work. and I was encouraged to establish a website. http://www.gulkopaintings.com. My work has been displayed in Israel at the Israel Discount Bank, at the Association of Americans and Canadians, and at the Hebrew Union College.
