Frances Bick-Yue Wong

Frances Bick-Yue Wong was born in Hong Kong. From an early age she was interested in Chinese art, and studied calligraphy and painting with Mr. Lin Chen-Shieh and Mr. Chao Shao-On. Her sensibility for colour and nature led her to study western oil painting with artist Ng Po-Wan. After she finished her studies at the Hong Kong Fine Arts School she enrolled at the Academy of Art in Rome, Italy, where she received her B.A. Degree in Decorative Arts in 1960. She further pursued the study of ceramics and sculpture and became a student of the classical oil painter Chen Shou-Soo. In 1961 she returned to Hong Kong and began her career as an art consultant. Her many commissions have included: The Mandarin Hotel, The Princes Building, Statue Square, The Excelsior Hotel, the Hong Kong Hotel, and numerous private residences. From 1974 to 1977 she taught extra mural courses in Art for the Chinese University; at this she also opened her own art studio. Moving to Milan in 1978 she furthered her education at the Brera Academy of Art. Her education to art and printmaking has brought her many honours and awards; among these are: First Prize Gold Medal Award at the International Competition in Bracciano, Rome, Italy, in 1961; Third Prize Award from Sant'Ambrogio of Milan in 1978; Woman Painter of the Year at the Oil Painting Competition in Como, Italy, in 1978. Frances Bick-Yue Wong has exhibited throughout the world, in Italy, England, Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, and The United States. Her works are included in many public and private collections.
