Artist Bio

I paint portraits because it is simply what I love and what I do best. From my very first introduction to the arts I have always been fascinated with portrait work. It is my belief that it is the face that calls the out success or failure of a painting. It is the face that tells the story, hides a secret or sends a message. It is the face that I base all my practice on.

When I paint a portrait I strive to convey the dignity, poise and personality of each sitter. I expect my work to last for ages. I expect it to be viewed constantly by family, friends and generations to come. These expectations go into each and every commission.

Because of time constraints I paint from photographs. I like to use as much time as I feel each painting needs. I also use the photographs to help clients decide exactly which pose they like best. I believe it is important for the client to know what they are going to get.

I have studied for many years under college instructors, private lessons, books and my own experimentation. My work has been exhibited in the Avenue Art Gallery, (Binghamton), Athens High School (were I had the pleasure of being a visiting artist) and in a variety of student shows. I have enjoyed my time in these shows but prefer the personal responses I receive when presenting a commissioned work to my clients. I love watching their reactions as they gaze over the canvas and see the image of themselves or their loved ones.

I have compiled a few of my works into this portfolio for your viewing pleasure. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Sincerely,

Bassem Eldakar *All prices are based on a single figure with a toned background. Complicated designs, extra objects, and/or scenery will increase cost. *Each additional figure increases cost 80%.

Delivery is arranged upon completion of the portrait.
