Flying Jewels is another of Natalia’s multi-layered explosions of colour from this period which again uses sand and contains so much for those who look hard enough. The Flying Jewels of this work are Koi fish; colourful, beautiful and very expensive, the jewels of the sea. The heat and light of the sun in the upper part of the painting represent life above the water, contrasting it with the mystery and possible danger in the blackness below the waterline. In between the two are the Koi fish, playing and flying, oblivious to danger, relentlessly searching for adventure under the sea.
