Children's Book COMPUTER ILLUSTRATION

CASE ANALYSIS: These are only four of the illustrations produced for Dr. Stephen Winston's book on children's developmental psychology. I was given an assignment to sketch the foundational angles, prep pages, as well as produce color pallete studies for the basic layouts of this compilation. The style of artwork presented a problem, in that it was requested to portray the scenarios in a non cartooney yet not completely realistic form. Basically, the illustrations were directly composed for children to view the pages and retain a sober, explorative perspective. (it was important not to overly exaggerate, stylize or fantasize the questions) the The light sources and environments were also a factor to consider. A kitten had to also be incorporated into the artwork which would thread and carry multiple scenes into the next phases. The text was to be very simplistic in essence yet convey the messages without interfering with the images. ...Okaaaay! this is what I produced for the presentation and display, everything was drawn in the computer except the sketches. Dr. Winston approved these portions and is moving forward with the project. H Rios (213) 435-9611
