This has a very Orthodox feel to it. In much of Southeastern Europe, the armies marched under the banner of one saint or another. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn't. Our visit to the Monastery of St. Basil the Healer at Osgroth showed that such religious fervor still exists in Eastern Europe, despite 50 years of Communism. It's hard to wipe away traditions that are 1000 years old in such a short time.
