Self Portrait

Hi! Photography has been my release for years, starting as a young teen. I was originally inspired by Ansel Adams and his work is still among my favorite. In high school, I was able to be published in a local college spring publication, The Northstar Review. I was enrolled at a college to become a professional photographer when I discovered my family was starting a few years ahead of what I was prepared for. So, formal education went to the back burner. But, even formal education will not help you if you don't have an eye for it... Thank God for the small blessings!

Because of my proximity to children, five of my own plus a daycare, kids are my most available subject and I enjoy them. I have done five weddings and some graduation shots, too. I'm not as fond of the formal pics, I like to capture the non-posed moments in life. When I would do wedding photos, I would be the bride's shadow all day, catching her in the morning (poor girls), getting her hair done, giggling with her bridesmaids, crying with her mom and sisters, last second preparations. One of my favorites, they were waiting for some more people to arrive for the pics and the maid of honor started pushing the bride all over on a chair with wheels, she was laughing and I caught the moment for her forever. Another shot, I sent the couple out to the end of a point on a river ahead of me. The sun was reflecting off the water, they were under a weeping willow. You could barely make out the couple's features because the sunlight off the water blocked them out. They weren't aware that I stayed back and watched them with my long lens. I got pictures of him holding her, them sharing a kiss, them laughing, and best of all, she was dancing in circles, throwing the skirt of her dress up, arm in air, head back and he was watching her. You just can't pose this stuff. I like to grab the moments in life that make life what it is...

I'm obsessed with odd pics of my kids, their feet, their hands, them walking away from me. I also enjoy nature photography.
