As a child, Stuart Mckay, grew up in the surfer's paradise city of Durban, on the East Coast of South Africa. He spent most of his time exploring not only the ocean but also the vast amount of vegetation of Durban's tropical climate. His involvement in the world of art began in these early years whilst watching one of his older brothers paint and often got handed a paintbrush himself. In his teen years, he and his parents moved South to the mother city of Cape Town, here he completed his final schooling years and gained a job in the oil industry with Shell. This gave him many opportunities to travel all around Southern Africa, particularly in the mining desert areas. These travels, as well as his adventurous childhood, were and still are his main inspiration and can clearly be seen in his depictions of beautifully unique African landscapes.
