Self Portrait

I am a self-taught sculptor who creates whole communities of expressive figures. I began carving baskets out of peach pits at a young age. Many years later I studied peach pits more closely and began to visualize faces on them. Over time, my carving technique improved with patience and practice. This solidified both a passion and a compulsion with creating. As the years went by, I began experimenting with a sundry of other materials, including clay, plastic, stone, wire, and wood. Before too long, I wasn’t simply satisfied with just carving faces. I became consumed with complimenting and accentuating many of my carvings by adding bodies. The theme of my work is expression and my biggest influence is everything that I see, feel and experience. The expression of deep feeling and sensitivity is the central theme in my work.
