Biography:
S D Edwards is a self-taught artist who has a massive interest in modern Raw or Outsider art. Raw art is work that is in its "raw" state, uncooked by cultural and artistic influences. This is how a self-taught artist can perceive their work. Being self-taught means that the artist has their own innate flair and artistic ability of expression. Many untrained artists are part of the Raw/Outsider art genre, although to define yourself as a Raw Artist in itself defies the true nature of Raw arts' very form. Raw artists quite often are unaware of this genre's existence!
Artists with no formal training are not influenced by other factors to the extent as one who has spent their time in formal training. Self-taught art comes from inside the soul, it is unhindered and free. However, our work is undoubtedly going to be influenced by all that we have seen around us in the world, as well as by the Art world for which the artist has a massive passion.

Statement:
Currently residing in North Wales, I have always had a passion for art; sketching, drawing, and painting. In childhood I would spend long hours drawing quite often fantastical and abstract pictures. To sit and draw was to be inside a story, I was captivated for hours in the creative process...and this is still the case. It sounds almost bizarre, but when I sit and immerse myself in a piece of artwork I find I am part of it; like reading a book, I am consumed by it until it is complete. Each piece of my work has come from the heart, each piece of work has a soul due to the emotions and energy that went into its creation. Art is not just expression, but a love and each piece of work holds its own importance. Today, whilst still producing pieces of fantasy artwork and illustration, I'm working on more contemporary and abstract pieces of artwork, suitable as a focal and discussion piece in anyone's home or business. I have had past work exhibited, and I sell paintings to buyers both at home and abroad. I specialise in a broad range of materials, including inks, acrylics, pastels, artist's pens and artist's pencils. I like to combine mediums and experiment with a range of styles and colours. Inspiration is all around me, and a lot of my work is found in the mind's eye where my imagiation runs vividly free.
