Digital Photograph

I became interested in photography as a young child. My parents, both artists, were impressed with my efforts to be creative with my angles, my composition, spatial relationships and such. My talents at that time were purely native. I loved photography and was rarely without my trusty box camera.

During my college years, I worked in camera shops and of course took many courses in photography. Having only shot in black and white as a youngster, the black and white image remains a favored medium. I loved being in the lab where I worked my magic and now I am largely digital, using many photo manipulation applications. I miss the smell of chemicals but Photoshop is probably better for my health.

Through my twenties (during the 60's) I shot professionally, primarily glamour, record album cover work, actor's portfolios and some surfing. My first published photographs were in the early days of Surfer Magazine and I was paid a whopping $5 for a full page photo. I was completely "stoked" as they said in those days. Later, I shot such musical icons as James Brown, Ray Charles, etc.

I left the business a bit disillusioned after having a very famous rock group (unnamed here but the first word in the name of their group was "Iron"} go nuts in my studio, wrecking equipment and then stiffed by the record company on my fee, and having art directors pose the recording artists. My creative input diminished as the jobs increased in profile. Additionally, I was not making a decent living and did not have the self confidence at that time, to chase after people who refused to pay. My photographer friends who were successful were about sixty percent photographer and forty percent business people. I was about ninety-nine to one. Not a good thing if you want to market yourself and make money. It was a great time, though.

Currently I enjoy drilling down into a photo and rendering the most interesting version to my tastes. It is fun to be selling photos again. I only sell twenty of each print, each being signed and numbered in the lower right corner of the print. I reserve the right to license any photo for commercial purposes.

As of February 7, 2013, I am uploading new photo art for sale.

Thanks for stopping by.
