Self Portrait

I am basically a self-taught artist, and started to paint in 1995. Many pieces of oils and watercolors have been sold, but my home is still full of art hanging on my walls. My inspiration comes from Mother Nature, as I grew up in the woods of Muskoka Ontario, and started to appreciate the sights, sounds and smells at a very tender and impressionable age. I'm German born and my name Renate is shortened to Nadi to make it easier for people to pronounce and remember. Thus I sign all my art with Nadi. Nowadays I'm an avid gardener, and absolutely love all the colors and shapes of my plants. Painting them in all their glory is a tribute to their beauty. Travelling is also a big love of mine, and inevitably inspires more paintings. My eyes take mental photos of the landscapes, and I put the details together to form another art work. Also my camera is my partner, and from those young days in the woods in Muskoka, I gleaned a passion for photography as well. Hiking with camera around my neck, and recording wildflowers, leaves, bark, sky, etc...has all been fodder for my imagination and production of works of art. Being a child of the 50's lends itself to a great love of that era, and I am also painting a series of old cars in different settings. ALL my work is viewable at http://renate-nadi-wesley.artistwebsites.com/
