Self Portrait

Finally my website is back up and running, now I am just waiting for a database program that will allow me to update my website as I wish. Be looking out for updates coming soon! :) Thanks for your patience. Regards, Joyce Hutchinson~*

I was born into a military family that traveled a lot. I loved it even though I had to say goodbye to friends and make new friends every few years.

To pass much of my time, I liked to draw flowers even as early as about five or six years old when we lived in Long Island. I spent many hours on the dining room table just drawing to my hearts content. I don't remember playing a lot of dolls or even watching T.V., just drawing and occasionally, lying out in my backyard on a nice spring or summer day looking at the clouds rolling by trying to see what I could see in them and then rising above them to see what was past them.

College bombed out with an art instructor that preached quantity NOT quality, so I left my major and ended up with a BFA in English Lit and a minor credits in music. Music is another love of mine, hence marrying a musician. Things happen for a reason and I guess I just wasn't meant to get that degree in art. For some it really matters and pays off. So here I am now and I have no regrets, other than to wish I had told that instructor how wrong he was about his philosophy.

I am married 23 years now to my beloved best friend and husband Scott and enjoy raising our lovely three children, David Kyle, now 21, Sarah Joyce 16, and Ian Joseph 15. We are an artist/musical family. It gets pretty crazy here sometimes.

I teach art out of my home, I am in my tenth year now of teaching 'quality' art education to children ages 6 and up. I still try to produce as much art as I have time for.

Although I still paint when I can, I have started getting phone calls to paint murals and do some faux finishing. I have studied so far under the one of the best Faux instructors in the country, Martin Alan Hirsch of the Decorative Finishes Studio in Louisville, Kentucky and plan to take more classes not only with him but with other fine instructors as time and money will allow. This has been a very exciting adventure.

My days are full but it's a good kind of fulfillment!
