Welcome to my gallery at ArtWanted,

My journey as an artist is a bit unusual as I followed up my art education (five years at a German art school) with a trip to Hawaii in 1986, only to stay there until now, spending most of my activity in the social field instead of working on my career. At the time it seemed the right thing to do and maybe even the more important one. Nevertheless I had a few opportunities to teach art and craft and create a few works for others and myself and got my work in a couple of juried local shows in all these years.

Lately I found the time again to indulge more intensively in painting and started a new series of creations that have the human eyes and its various expressions at the centre of attention. What often started as a pencil sketch or watercolor will most likely be finalized and "touched up" in a computer before it later finds its way to an advanced scan/print shop where they print my art work with archival ink back on good old heavy canvas. (Commercial giclee process)

Once I get the canvas back in my studio I look it over to see where the process has changed my original hues (giclee process can not print every artistic color and hue, gold and silver are just two examples) and add my own acrylic paints where necessary till I'm satisfied that my original (or new) intentions are fulfilled. Then I stretch the artwork on good old stretcher strips and it goes on my studio wall to be looked over and getting a name on another day. This process gives me a new found freedom in regard to the size of the work and I'm now able to offer different sizes when this is artistically appropriate (some art work is simple meant to be one size only to "work best").

My latest endeavor is printing my art works on art quality TYVEK, a special material that has unique properties in regard to the actual reproduction of color that canvas is missing; e.g. higher resolution/detail. These works will still be mounted over regular canvas and then onto frames to ensure robustness in handling. Updates will be announced here shortly.

Shipping: Due to my location in the Hawaiian Islands actual shipping costs (to mainland USA) are astronomical for larger framed paintings. Therefore I'm offering my customers the option to receive just the canvas (with commercially sealed surface) rolled up in a commercial shipping tube. Such canvas can be easily mounted at most frame shops in your local area to an appropriate frame of your choice and saves a lot of costs. For such orders I will reduce the actual total price by $40 to $100 or so depending on size/weight/destination, in other words, ....by what I save.

Shipping on my Island of Oahu will stay free as before, I actually still deliver in person to your home.

Education: Alanus School Of Arts, Bonn, Germany 1979-1985 (diploma)
