Anyone Buy Film

Was wandering around my local drug store and was surprised I couldn't locate any film. Digital is nice, but I still prefer what I can afford camera, because of all of the lenses I have. So, without going to a camera shop or on-line, is film still for sale ?

Yep, you can still buy film although the choices are very limited in the type available, Kodak only offers a few b&w and color neg selections type. and about a couple slides selections.. versus the large selecton they use to. Fuji has a few extra emulsion types than Kodak offers and probably the most in selection currently ,although it is a shell of what was available.. It appears Kodak is really leaving the film department with most of their emulsions being churned out from China now from what I read. mainly as far as stores go, they will only really stock what they think they can sell and not have laying around on shelves for months/years.. The harder part is finding labs to develop it. there are a few still out there, once again online/mail will probably be your best bet.

You probably can find a few stores that offer it but your going to have to search because shelf space being at a premium for stores they really do not want dead weight product laying around on shelves. and the film market has dwindle drastically but is still is a viable market but more specialized so probably a camera store would be your best bet if you want to buy locally.

I don't know if Walmart or Target to name a few departmetn stores still carry film since I don't buy film anymore since my last purchases in 2007. I have been using digital since about 2003 and now fully have embraced it myself.

So best bet is online sales/purchases. there is still a small niche of market/photographers who want and like film. so it will be available for a while. however the selections are going to be very limited in what choices of emulsions you can purchase.

Thanks Gary. That was my thinking, especially the on-line route or mail route. And me with two fairly decent camera's with lenses (one inherited) and a couple of older 1950's that I'd love to swap out for a medium priced digital SLR. But for old SLR's camera's, prices not worthy of trying to trade or sell them. Example, I have my old 1980 Pentax with 3 top of the lenses at the time that cost me a little over a grand. I'd be lucky to get a couple of hundred dollars for it now. ETC. oh well. Guess I'll have to wait for the "lotto" to pay off.

Welcome to the modern age, even if you are not happy with it.

There are some relatively easy online stores to go to. I would avoid eBay, especially if you're not patient with the Internet.

Well, this might make you feel better:

"The rise in sales of cell phones are decreasing the demand for regular landline installations."

Good luck!

(As an amateur photographer myself, I'm still adjusting to the idea that all those built-in mini-cameras in mobile phones makes just about anyone an equipped photographer)
