ArtWanted and Charles W. Redman

I haven't been here in a long while. I find myself missing AW people all the time. I can't let this day pass without thanking ArtWanted for their wonderful art site that I joined in 2004. Without AW I may have never met Charles W. Redman. I send special thanks to Charles. Here's why.

Last summer I learned that Charles uses walnut branches to carve canes that he gives away. I have a walnut tree that needed trimming, and instead of putting the branches on the burn pile I sent them to him. To my surprise he carved the most beautiful cane for me! This cane, The Snake Charmer, turned into pure magic.

I was in the middle of writing a true, yet fantasy, short story of my life as a grandmother and the crazy tales I tell my grandkids and was at a fork in the road when I sent the branches to Charles. After I discovered he was carving a cane for me my children's story found a truly meaningful direction. I am so grateful to this guy and his thoughtfulness and talent. My book, including Charles as one of the major characters, is finally complete and in my possession, and a box full of them is at my side. I am forever grateful to ArtWanted and Charles W. Redman. Charles, you are AWESOME!

Very nice to hear of good things coming from your time spent here and of your interaction with other artists on this site.

Really though, Vivian, this is a great example of "what goes around, comes around". It was very thoughtful of you to send Charles those branches. Seems like you received kindness in return.

Thank you, Linda. Indeed it was certainly great kindness on Charles' part. It was so unexpected to receive this intricately carved cane from this talented artist. He did such a wonderful job with it and it is a beauty! And, it changed the direction of my story for the better. I'm on my way to the post office to mail him his copies. I hope his family likes what they see of his character.

That's a great story Vivian. I would love to see a picture of the cane he made for you :)

Hi Kathi, I'll list a picture of it sometime tomorrow. I have many angles of it since I needed it for the book cover. It is a beautiful cane that I hope lives up to its name. I just came in from painting and am on my way back out in a minute. I'll do my search for the cane tonight. I'm glad you mentioned a picture or I may not have thought to post one.

In the center of each of the flowers are the initials of my husband, kids and grandkids. The shield has my initials, VA surrounded by carved snake skin. I get many, many compliments for the artist, Charles, when they see the cane. It is truly a beautiful piece of art with a lot of thought behind the making of it.

Hi Denny, I was wowed too, especially after receiving it and having it in person to really see the details. I watched his youtube of it being made.

It's good to hear from you, too. Your's and Leigh's names come up every now and then around here pertaining to art and photography. I hope you both are keeping warm at that cozy fireplace near a window where you have that fabulous view. Hi to Leigh.

It's really nice to know that some people are willing to share. Sometimes, one has to take the first step.

Great on both parts !

Well I see you posted it like you said Mrs. V .I'm embarrassed for sure, dont ask me why , I just am.

I just picked up the books at the P.O. Read it four times and then twice more. A great honor being a charactor in a book for children ,a part of history forever through the eyes of Mrs V Allen. Great art work great rhyme great book Thank you so much Mrs. V a private letter is coming from me soon.

Don't let Mrs. V fool you she is a incredible person thats way she recieved the Snake Charmer. Its my way of passing on the charma, her's is shining so bright, I had to complyment its glare with a proper snake charmer. A simple jesture from a far away friend a few pieces of wood and a dream comes true.

The story brought tears to my wife's eyes and smiles to the faces of my childern, a story Mrs V kept secert from me the whole time. A wonderful story with a great unexpected ending. It will hold a place not only in the library but in the Redman family for ever.

A must have for anyone with children or grandchildren a quick story for bedtime or just reading on a warm summer night.

Thank you so much from the bottom of this old grunts heart.

Peace,

CWR

Go Steelers!

Hi RQ, Thank you. That walnut tree now has great memories every single time I see it from my front porch.

Hi Charles, Your words brought happy emotions to me. I'm so glad you and your family liked it, and that J had tears that I'm taking as tears of joy, and I'm happy to know the boys like it as well.

I've always liked O Henry and that was my fork in the road. You made me take the right path.

And I also thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Wow, this is wonderful! I loved reading this thread. It sounds like a story in itself!! Vivian and Charles, you are both very generous and talented people. Thank you for blessing me with your story.

Vivian Allen 16 Jan 2009

Hi Suzanne, It's so wonderful to know that you feel blessed with this story. It's one of those things that happens when neighbors come to know one another even though there are many hundreds of miles distance between them. ArtWanted Avenue makes them next door neighbors.

You wouldnt' believe the fuse Ive recieved from this book. Everything for "How can we make money on this"(what a joke) To how sweet it is. I expect you may have a few offers to purchase the rest of your copies. Can I ask how do I get a copy to enter into our library, paid for of course? Tomorrow we are having my youngests (jp)b-day party, many are coming from all over the state, if they read this beautiful book, I'm sure we will have more that want a copy...

One friend, a collecter of my crap, already wants a double signed copy. yours and mine.See what you did Mrs.V , its minus 4 here but you've warmed the hearts of old Fayette-nam.

Peace,

CWR
