Green Apple>Realistic Still Life Drawing

Hi guys. I've been getting some requests via my website for a colored pencil tutorial lately. So yesterday I sat down and got started on one. This is the drawing I did for it. It's a still life drawing of a green apple. This is done with Prismacolor colored pencils. It's 9"x12" so fairly small. You can see the tutorial at this link if you are interested: http://www.dueysdrawings.com/colored_pencil_tutorial.html

Hi Brian, Super job on the apple! Your colours are right on, and it looks good enough to eat.

I also like the way you tied in the colour of the apple with the background. Also good reflection on the table. My only nitpic is that for such a bright light source, it doesnt' have a shadow on the table behind it. Ann

you are good. your right about Armin Mersann he is fantastic. he does more then just copy a photo. wish he's work was a little larger on his website.

keep up the good work. maybe check out paints sometime.

Great coloring on the apple. It looks perfectly real.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I did think about putting a shadow on the left side behind the apple but then I didn't do it. I realize that it should be there.

Great apple, though... maybe I'd prefer it to stand out more against the background... deepen the shadows a little?

Hi Brian

Excellent tutorial and still life drawing, should encourage other artists to have a go at drawing from still life if they havent already tried it!

very good indeed, love the shadows.

Very good piece. But I note that there isn't a reflected highlight where the table meets the apple. it seems that the apple is sitting on a very shiny surface as indicated by the reflection of the apple.
