Trades!

Vivian made a comment in another thread that she was offered bongo lessons for a painting...got me to thinking...

What have you been offered or accepted in trade for your paintings?

My hair "goddess" and I have an ongoing "hair color/extensions for mural work" agreement. (Maybe I'll do funky red skinny dreads next time, then NOBODY will believe I'm coming up on my 40-somethingth birthday! LOL)

I've also traded my art for antiques or jewelry or work on my car; my tattoo skills for a leather biker jacket and dinner, a guitar, and an offer of a huge beautiful Veiled Chameleon (I was moving, so I couldn't accept that one - darn it!). Then there's those offers of the unsavory kind...s.e.x. (never took anybody up on one of those- geeeesh!). I've been offered mural jobs out of state for the plane ticket and a stay in their house. I won't do that unless I know the person. Almost forgot - belly-dancing lessons for art! The gal is still my friend!

The best is still: trading art for ca$h to pay the rent. Let's hear your trade stories!

...I have traded art for many, many of things throughout my life. Many hunting rifles and pistols, meals in fancy restaurants, seafood, hunting trips in Wyoming, furniture, tires, clothing, vinyl albums, music CDs, computer tech service, stereo equipment, TVs, framing, drugs, sex...just kidding...about the sex and drugs...well one one of them anyway...Man! Leigh really likes that one painting I did for her. I am just an "art whore."

In college it was usually for a night out on the town, lately its been for art, plumbing, and my mechanic works for parts, a six-pack, and a painting. Its a great deal

About 25 years ago I traded one of my elderly neighbors a painting that she liked for several banana trees. I dug them up from her yard myself. She was so grateful to have them thinned that she even gave me extra cash. The trees transplanted very well and actually grew beautiful flowers that eventually became bananas, but didn't fully mature because the warm season wasn't long enough. Those are some great trades you all made. I know the ones you traded with think so, too.

I traded my first of two books of prose for an abstract my buddy did. I think I got the better of the deal.

Being in the trades, we do trade favor for favor when it comes to work.

I have tried to trade percentages of my work for percentages of theirs applied, but with no success. Like 60% - 40% on the sale. No one wants to paint weird wood sculptures ...can't say I blame them...but can't blame one for trying.

Art for sex?

eileen martin 12 Feb 2005

Patrick, don't do it. you would look really silly walking around in the sleazy part of town at midnight carrying a painting in your back pocket:)

I used to trade my art for Dead tickets. But, that was so long ago. Nowadays, I'm strictly into trading for soundboards of certain shows. LOL. It's something else I've come to collect.

Bongo lessons would be good.

Money is my favorite rate of exchange, but I'm a Big fan of the barter system too. I've traded art and web design work for lots of stuff, like:

Concert tickets, laying in a small retaining wall, blown glass pitcher and vase, custom jewlery, food, a couple of cases of mead, a set of throwing daggers, a perm, a pair of holly bushes, a hand carved flute and ocerana, and a baby sitter for my dog when I had one and had to keep going out of town.

Also I ended up with a boa constrictor named Mr. Jones ...that one puzzles me a little, I was actually trying to barter for an aquarium set up but she had to get rid of the snake so threw him in as well...lol

Pete Miller 13 Feb 2005

Yes Denny a most excellent trade....

I have swaped art for all kinds of stuff Pat and I trade art all the time, well it isnt like a trade, if he says he likes something I have done I give it to him and vice versa....

except the boobie paintings.....I have kids..lol

WESTERN ARTWORK By Denny Karchner 13 Feb 2005

Hey Pat! I need some boobs!!

Patrick Miller 13 Feb 2005

You're gonna get me in trouble..aren't ya?

Pete Miller 13 Feb 2005
