experience with art-exchange.com?

I was contacted by phone this morning by art-exchange.com. wanting to sell my photos. Has anyone here done any business with them? They sound like they actually sell art for artists which sounds too good to be true. Anyone know anything about these guys?

With any luck you'll get someone in the know. Perhaps a little searching is required.

But that old adage..If it sounds to good to be true.

Good luck on your investigation.

I would try and get in touch with some of the artists that are members .And ask for some advise.or do a search for past comments or chats from the sight

Judy i also got the same phone call a year ago and i summized it was a good value. For $250.00 you get up to 15 art placements for LIFE and they sell them and market them for you. The marketing side is a little hazy as im not sure how much traffic they bring to their site, but after close investigation it seemed many artists were making sales on their paintings, some as high as $15,000. It seems like a good investment and i think you should go ahead and pursue it. But of course get the facts for yourself...i recommend calling them and talking with them for a whil..ask questions.

Art-exchange.com has an extremely poor reputation amongst artists. They market their site aggressively to artists, sometimes to the point of being obnoxious. Whenever a site, or gallery, for that matter, charges artists a fee, it is because they do not have enough buyers to make their site work. Reputable sites and galleries, that do good business (financially speaking) do not ask artists to pay for the privilege of exhibiting their art. I have made it a practice to never pay to have my art exhibited either online or in brick and mortar spaces.

Hi Nina. Let me know when you find a "brick and mortar" or "online'" gallery that doesn't take a percentage of any sell and I will be "all over that." To me, that IS a form of paying, maybe just not upfront.--Denny ;{

Denny, Reputable galleries do not ask artists for money BEFORE they sell the artists' artwork. :)

I know. I was just pulling your chain...if someone should know about what your are talking about, it would be you. Your list of galleries and shows is as long as I have seen in a long time. Congrats Nina!--Denny ;{

Thanks to each of you for the help, John's link to artscuttlebutt was VERY helpful. And sorry I didn't reply sooner, I had a craft show yesterday.

Art-exchange looks suspicious, and I will just stay away from them!
