I lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico for several years when my husband went to school. At the time Santa Fe was not a tourist trap and if you wanted a true feel for New Mexico, that was the place to go.

You might try visiting the small churches in the area. I remember the most beautiful murals on the walls.

The whole state is so rich in culture and scenery that you won't have to look very far.

You might also try contacting the state's chamber of commerce. They'll be able to provide you with lots of free brochures which will depict the cultures of the various areas.

I know an illustrator in New Mexico, Joel Nakamura. He's very well known maybe if you email him he can help you out. He's been kind in responding to some of my emails.

He has some Southwestern influence in his art.

I'm confused by your question. Is it a Mexican restaurant in New Mexico or a New Mexican restaurant somewhere or a 'new' Mexican restaurant anywhere? Or is it a new restaurant in New Mexico?

Thanks Andrew I am gonna check out that sight. It is an old restuarant with new owners and a new wall that serves New Mexican (Like the state) Cuisine. Pretty much dolled up mexican food, except everything is centerd on the chile pepper and in our restuarnt apparently chicken stock.

Thanks for clearing that up Rob. I thought that's what he meant. Also google 'Taos galleries'. It's a pretty big art scene there. Something like 1 out of every 6 residents is an artist of some sort. Pretty cool!
